LISTEN: Joel Madison Blount, 'In the Name of Fear'

Artist: Joel Madison Blount
Hometown: Birmingham, AL
Song: “In the Name of Fear”
Album Title: Our New Moon
Release Date: September 29, 2017

In Their Words: “I’ve lived a fearful life. This wasn’t something I intentionally set out to do; it just happened slowly over time. I realize that acknowledging fear is healthy and necessary for the preservation of life, so I’m speaking more to the irrational fears that can sometimes overwhelm us. Fear (or anxiety) has a tendency to slowly creep up and take control of our thoughts without us realizing what’s happening. Fear manifests itself in times of uncertainty when the ‘what if’ questions begin to multiply, our illusions of control fade away, and we work ourselves into a frenzy. We’re left feeling completely overwhelmed by self-doubt and worries about everything that might go wrong. I call it ‘spiraling.’ Another non-scientific word to describe this, and the working title I used for the song, is ‘panophobia’ — the fear of everything.” — Joel Madison Blount
