BGS is proud to once again partner with our friends at WinterWonderGrass to bring you exquisite, intimate live sessions captured at WinterWonderGrass Steamboat earlier this year. Filmed by Far From Near Productions at the Steamboat Art Museum in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, we’re calling the series WinterWonderGrass In The Round. Artists and bands from the WWG lineup perform in casual and cozy jam circles – unplugged, acoustic, and unadorned – inside the museum, surrounded on all sides by adoring fans, festival-goers decked out in their toques, scarves, and snow clothes.
Our first WinterWonderGrass In The Round videos featured fast-rising festival favorite Clay Street Unit. To continue the series, we thoroughly enjoyed music from BGS Artist of the Month Bronwyn, which was followed by a very cool guitar-and-banjo collaboration with Tyler Grant and Billy Failing and a special solo performance from AJ Lee. After that, the group Tophouse delivered a fantastic three-song set.
Johnny Mullenax, a Tulsa native who loves a funky groove, steps into the round and introduces his band to the crowd. A naturally charismatic performer, he starts the set with a clever and perhaps true song about being a poor musician (“Used to Work for a Livin'”). He jokes with the audience about taking requests before landing on a thoughtful selection, “This Joint’s for You,” a sincere tribute to those who have seen his growth from a kid obsessed with playing guitar into a steadily growing career as a full-time musician. Those endless hours of practicing have clearly paid off, as evidenced by this performance of “With Me.” To close the set, he invites AJ Lee into the round for a reimagined rendition of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.”
Live music is certainly never going away if BGS, WinterWonderGrass, Far From Near, and all these artists and bands have anything to do with it. And as long as we have y’all to enjoy it, too!
