In Their Words: “I wrote ‘A Petal Here, a Petal There’ while I was listening to a lot of Townes Van Zandt. There’s something that seems so earnest to me about him. I was alone in my apartment, and it was early spring, as it is now. I was sitting at the couch, a few leaflets of paper strewn across the coffee table — my roommates’ dog, Isabel, sitting next to me. I was alone and exploring the love and raw emotion I felt, from a place that felt safely distant and lonely. It was very reminiscent of an old folk song, the kind of song that helps you feel okay about something you lost, the kind of old folk song that makes you feel not so alone, because what you’re feeling has been felt before and will surely be felt again.” — Sarah Vos
