Our next artist in the Woollystar Festival lineup is Chuck Prophet & His Cumbia Shoes, captured live at the Northern California festival in June.
About Chuck and his band, Woollystar founder and curator Avery Hellman, better known to many as ISMAY, says “Chuck Prophet & His Cumbia Shoes will send your every neuron buzzing and your dancing feet aflame. Chuck has carried his shrewd observational songwriting into a new field of sound over his last two albums collaborating with Cumbia musicians.
At Woollystar this year, this band’s razor-sharp tones and hypnotic grooves were in no small part thanks to Chuck’s incredible band — James DePrato on guitar, Mario Cortez on percussion and backup vocals, Alejandro ‘Flaco el Jandro’ Gomez on guitar and backup vocals, Mike Anderson on bass, and Sean Nelson on drums. It was true California tunage, Americana at its finest, crossing cultural boundaries. Chuck engrossed the audience in something rare: a blowout party stemming from high art.”
