LISTEN: The Lonesome Billies, ‘Y’all Never Came Out West’

Jul 27, 2015

Coming out of Portland, OR, it's no wonder that the Lonesome Billies combine the classic country stylings of everyone from Waylon Jennings to Whitey Morgan with a heaping helping of the '70s pop-punk ethos of the Ramones and the Clash on their debut LP, It’s Good to Be Lonesome. The through-thread of the music being a ragged, DIY sensibility and approach.

The Lonesome Billies are four Pacific Northwesterners, childhood friends who traded in their skateboards for instruments in order to keep playing together — Clayton McCune (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeff Gaither (lead guitar, vocals), plus brothers Mike (bass, vocals) and Glen Scheidt (drums). Gaither — aka Gator Bill — says of the track, "When that pioneer spirit takes hold and you can't shake the raw gut feeling that it's time to get up and go, and leave some folks behind along the way … that's what 'Y'all Never Came Out West' is about."

It’s Good to Be Lonesome drops on September 1.
