From Muscle Shoals to Lower Manhattan, The Family brings its stellar folk-rock sound to Lucinda’s, a vibey neighborhood bar in the Lower East Side that features the finest of live music.
The band is composed of Dylan LeBlanc, James LeBlanc, Angela Hacker, and Bay Simpson, and all four members are key figures in Northern Alabama music scene. When Rodney Hall offered them a space in FAME Studio during COVID lockdown, they decided to go all-in, trying to capture a moment in time, not to mention the family dynamic. Six years later, they released those sessions on an album titled Delusions of Grandeur.
The band name is no coincidence, as James LeBlanc and Angela Hacker are married; James’ son is Dylan LeBlanc, and Bay Simpson is Angela’s son.
As a unit, this blended family’s musical style is incredible, yet their individual achievements are also impressive. James LeBlanc wrote the Travis Tritt hit, “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde,” as well as album cuts for Gary Allan and Tim McGraw & Faith Hill. Dylan LeBlanc has released a number of stellar solo projects, including 2016’s satisfying collection, Cautionary Tale. In addition, Bay Simpson made it to the knockout rounds on The Voice earlier this year; Hacker won the USA Network series Nashville Star in 2007, signed a major label deal, and toured the country.
Yet the Family is stronger together. “We all came into it carrying different scars, different stories of survival — but through the music, we found healing in each other. Broken things can still become beautiful,” the band states on their website. Doing it all independently via Big Black Cow Records after being turned down by record labels, the group has already sold more than 10,000 vinyl copies and garnered comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and Steely Dan. And they’ve revealed that they’re already working on the next project.
But in the meantime, take a look at live videos for “I’ll Take It,” “History of Things to Come,” “Pick Your Poison,” and “The End,” filmed live at Lucinda’s in New York City.
