In Their Words: “Messin Up” is superficially about getting my heart broken multiple times in regrettably quick succession. Everything in the song is true, and yet I don’t think that’s what the song is actually about. The lyrics are telling that story, but I think the song is looking at life more holistically — at all of the bruises and scars that we get when things don’t work out the way we had hoped. Life is a series of these 'mistakes,' I think, but they create the ripples that turn us into the vibrant creatures that we are. They make us human.” — Nick Drummond
