BGS Wraps: Daryl Mosley, “An Old Fashioned Christmas”

Artist: Daryl Mosley
Hometown: Waverly, Tennessee
Song: “An Old Fashioned Christmas”
Label: Pinecastle Records

In Their Words: “I’ve always had a love affair with the past. I love history, antiques, old music, old movies, old instruments, etc. As I’ve gotten older, things from my own past come into play. Rick Lang and I wrote the song from around a conversation of our personal Christmas experiences. It’s those special memories and those mental snapshots of our childhood that are most precious to us this time of year. Being able to record the song with my longtime friend Danny Roberts producing, and his amazingly talented daughter Jaelee singing harmony, was extra special and it truly captured the feelings of family. It is my hope when people hear the song that it mentally takes them back to happy Christmas memories of their own.” — Daryl Mosley

WATCH: Rick Lang Feat. Becky Buller, “They Sawed Up a Storm”

Artist: Rick Lang feat. Becky Buller
Hometown: Kingston, New Hampshire
Song: “They Sawed Up a Storm”
Album: A Tale to Tell
Release Date: February 25, 2022
Label: Dark Shadow Recording

In Their Words: “‘They Sawed Up a Storm’ is a highlight track from my new story song album, A Tale to Tell. The song itself is based on a true-to-life story about the heroism of 13 women who operated a sawmill at Turkey Pond, New Hampshire. They led a salvage operation to save millions of feet of timber knocked down by the devastating Hurricane of 1938. A colleague of mine, Sarah Shea Smith, wrote a book about the story, which became the basis of this song. ‘They Sawed Up a Storm’ is a celebration the heroism of these 13 women. The song track and video features Becky Buller on banjo and lead vocals, with guitarist Jana Mougin and fiddler Laura Orshaw on supporting vocals. So glad to be able to share this inspiring story song with folks.” — Rick Lang

Artist: The Grascals
Hometown: Nashville, Tennessee
Song: “Thankful”
Release Date: May 21, 2021
Label: Mountain Home Music Company

In Their Words: “The lyrics to our new single are a powerful and wonderful reminder of just how much we all have to be thankful for, and especially now more than ever! I think this song really touched all of our hearts, which made it an easy choice to record, and we’re so glad that the writers — Daryl Mosley and Rick Lang — brought it to The Grascals. ‘Thankful’ makes you pause and reflect on the truly important things in life and where our blessings come from, and I hope all of the listeners will really focus on the words of this song. I know it has helped me keep a brighter disposition while not being able to travel and see my music family and friends — and you just can’t help but smile when you hear it. The Grascals truly are ‘Thankful’!” — John Bryan, singer/guitarist, The Grascals
