In Their Words: “‘You’re Just In Love’ was written by Irving Berlin, who wrote it for the 1950 Broadway musical Call Me Madam. It’s been recorded many times, but never like this – we do it almost as a folk song. I love the counterpoint, the two different words, and the melodies going on at the same time. Irving Berlin, of course, is a famous American popular music composer. He’s written songs that everybody knows, like ‘God Bless America’ and ‘White Christmas,’ but in fact, he wrote hundreds of hit songs for Broadway musicals, movies, and pop records. He’s one of my favorite composers. And for me, what could be better than a grandfather singing to his granddaughter about what it feels like to be in love?” – Jim Kweskin

Hometown: New York City
Song: “Then Comes the Night” (Feat. Cindy Cashdollar)
Album: Our Band: Live Studio Sessions
Release Date: May 11, 2022
Label: Wavy Glass

In Their Words: “Our Band is always looking to expand our sonic palette. We were recently asked to create a virtual concert experience for Lincoln Center, and this gave us incentive to write and find some new songs, and to realize them in creative ways. Justin Poindexter (our guitarist) has been working on a project by the great songwriter D.B. Rielly, and D.B. generously offered his haunting ‘Then Comes the Night’ for this session. Cindy Cashdollar plays amazing lap steel on this track. She, Rohin Khemani (tabla and drums) and Dave Speranza (bass) brought such wonderful energy and a sense of adventure to the recording session. It was a thrill to record live in the same room, and to have all these amazing textures happening around us.” — Sasha Papernik, Our Band

WATCH: Annalyse & Ryan, “Singing With Angels”

Artist: Annalyse & Ryan
Hometown: Beacon, New York
Song: “Singing with Angels” (ft. Cindy Cashdollar)
Release Date: October 29, 2021

In Their Words: “Even if you didn’t know him personally, John Prine had this innate ability to make you feel like you were his best friend simply through his music. He expressed so well what it was like to be human, even in those tiny throwaway moments when you think no one is watching — those moments that may seem meaningless, but they’re the ones that always tell the real story.” — Annalyse McCoy

“We started writing this tune soon after John passed — having followed his horrific journey through this unthinkable virus and learning that it had taken him, we were devastated as so many in the music community were. The comradery we felt in the entire process of recording this song was palpable. All parties involved put their hearts into this project, and it came together because of this intense sense of community and love. Musicians have had a hard year and we’re just starting to come out of the haze. It’s important to us to pass along the stories, traditions, and styles of those who came before us and inspired us. And there’s nowhere else John Prine could be now but singing with angels.” — Ryan Dunn
